This series of blog posts will be focused on how identities are crafted in online spaces. The art of identity creation is mastered in physical space by the necessity of self-preservation. Those most disciplined are able to influence their prospective futures by crafting an identity that suits their endeavors. Online, however, in an increasingly complex “social” environment, the same benefits can only be reaped if one knows not only the old rules for creating an identity, but rules about capitalism, information exchange, coding, and privacy. It seems this environment is increasingly dominated by those in the business of PR (i.e. political interests and corporate interests). I hope to explore the requirements for building (or manipulating) identity online along with whether the tactics work or don’t work, and why.
